Waterfall Of Death - Update

Just a brief update on one of my least favorite "works of art," the Waterfalls. The Brooklyn Heights Association, a neighborhood group, has asked the city's Community Assistance Unit Commissioner (whoever that is) to end the Public Art Fund's project early. They want it shut down right after Labor Day rather then in mid-October.

The reason for this, as I posted about before, is that the mists of salty water blowing off the "waterfalls" is destroying vegetation. Apparently the problem has spread beyond just the trees in the River Cafe garden. Plants along the Brooklyn Promenade and in nearby gardens are also being destroyed.

The Parks Department has been giving the plants on the Brooklyn Promenade extra waterings, and have said there shouldn't be any long-term damage. Only time will tell.
